Should I file a renters claim?

Deciding whether to file a claim is entirely up to you. A couple things to consider are

  • If the estimated cost of repairs is less than or about equal to your deductible amount, it might not be worth filing
  • If you feel at all unsafe living in your home, you should consider filing

Check out more resources for deciding if you should file a claim.

How does my deductible work?

For a covered claim, you'll be paid the actual cash value of the property damaged minus your deductible2 (varies by policy/state). We calculate actual cash value by using the replacement cost less depreciation; however, additional payments may be made for policies with replacement cost coverage.
